EUROCK Outstanding Paper Award
for Young Scientistsand Engineers


  • Young scientists and engineers who are the first author of a paper presented orally at EUROCK 2014-The 2014 ISRM European Symposium and who, as of the date of May 29, 2014, are less than 35 years of age, are eligible for the EUROCK 2014 Outstanding Paper Award for Young Engineers and Scientists.The Award recognizes the outstanding research achievements and significant practical contributions to the field of rock mechanics or rock engineering.


  • The Award consists of a Certificate of Merit and a cash prize. Candidates who wish to be considered for the Award must submit the following documents to the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Symposium by email

(1) a completed application form (see the attachment);
(2) a brief CV accompanied by a list of previous publications;
(3) the paper for consideration, as submitted through the Symposium website.


  • The following rules should be observed when applying for the Award:

(1) The application deadline is March 15, 2014.
(2) No applicant can present more than one paper for the Award.
(3) The paper submitted for the Award should not already have been published in any scientific journal.


  • Applications will be peer-reviewed and evaluated by an Award Committee consisting of 3 to 5 members of the EUROCK 2014 Scientific Committee or International Advisory Board, nominated and chaired by the ISRM Vice-President for Europe. Members of the Award Committee will then attend sessions during which the applicants will present their papers in order to additionally assess the quality of the presentation.


  • The EUROCK 2014 Outstanding Paper Award for Young Scientists and Engineers will be presented to the successful candidate during the Closing Session of the Symposium. In addition, a Certificate of Recognition will be presented to a runner-up.
